Training of Highly Qualified Personnel

In November 2019, 1 B.Sc., 2 M.Sc., and 8 Ph.D. students, 1 PDF, 2 Visiting Scientists and 1 Research Assistant are engaged in the group performing organic synthesis, peptide synthesis, solid-phase organic chemistry, combinatorial chemistry, spectroscopic techniques, computer modeling, and bio-organic chemistry.  This training is well suited for employment in academia and industry as demonstrated by the hiring of my graduates.  Since starting my career in October 1991, the Lubell laboratory has trained 58 undergraduate, 67 graduate, 18 International exchange, 5 Junior College Students, 39 Postdoctoral Fellows, and 7 research assistants.

Dr. Chiara Gamberi, Visiting Professor.

Project: A molecular developmental biologist studying RNA-dependent mechanisms in developmental regulation, CG has established a model of polycystic kidney disease (PKD) in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster suitable to study the molecular mechanisms of PKD by molecular, genetic and chemical approaches. Using a pipeline for screening compounds in the fly, CG has identified two potential drug candidates for PKD that are being developed with the Lubell group.
